Angela Gil: Founder & CEO

“I met Angela in 2019, while she was working in tandem with artist and activist Lalah Hathaway +The Real Music Rebels to launch the LA edition of Future x Sounds festival series. I became instantly inspired by her vision to launch a platform combining music, community and activism in order to shine a light on independent artists, community- builders and activists in different cities and I have been collaborating with the project as Art & Community Director ever since.

Angela is a passionate and driven entrepreneur, with her heart in the right place. For the past years, she has supported the music scene in New York, LA, Philadelphia and provided opportunities for artists through events, panels, workshops, festivals. Her vision of the industry is holistic, and she uses her resources, network and storytelling to Shift The Spotlight on the behind the scenes music ecosystem, while pushing the boundaries so the independent community can fully thrive. ”-

Dom Frazer: Founder

“Dom has headed up music and arts space The Boileroom for 15 years, the space is so loved by locals and also artists alike. She is well known for her fierce and uncompromising focus when it comes to providing opportunities for women in music. She has apprentices at the venue and also runs a shadow programme that currently has 5 women engineers currently being trained up. Throughout the pandemic Dom and her team pivoted and ran live streams which were interviews and live performances and really kept the spirit of the venue alive through doing this.

They run a programme called Creative Courage Circle which is so amazing! Recently they announced they are launching a new space called New House which will house 20 odd studios for artists as well as a gallery space. It's amazing that the venue has managed to stay open and now it seems to be thriving with this new venture.”

Lotje Horvers: Tour manager

I am nominating myself, in an effort to augment the impact of my current project: Backstage Pass, live event careers for girls. Now 39, I have been a tour manager since I was 20. I work with amazingly inspiring artists such as Robyn, Fever Ray and ionnalee. Unable to work during the pandemic, I have aimed my focus at helping young women and genderqueer folks break into the live music industry.

I am currently dedicating a lot of my time on getting the non-profit organisation I founded, Backstage Pass, off the ground. Our first project is aimed at inspiring and empowering girls and genderfluid teens aged 15-16 to pursue a career in technical roles within live music.”-

Brainchild overcame so many challenges to run the festival safely this year, including inspiring the festival ticket buyers to agree to underwrite the event in case of covid cancellation, and having to the run the site safely in the middle of an extreme weather event. Not only does Marina have complete professional integrity, dedication and attention to detail, she is also just a lovely person, full of positivity and kindness.”- Emily Moxon

Suzi Green: Tour Manager (Placebo, Katie Melua, PJ Harvey)

“During the last 18 months, Suzi Green has created the online peer-support-group, The Back Lounge, which is open to all live events industry people. She has successfully held a meeting weekly each week on topics as varied as stress, anxiety, jet lag and how to look after yourself on the road. Suzi has forged a community of live industry professionals that often go completely unnoticed due to the nature of the roles that they carry out backstage. As a result, members of the Back Lounge community have found others in the business who, like them, want to enjoy their jobs whilst not jeopardising their mental or physical health. The power of the community knows no end and for bringing it all together, Suzi Green definitely deserves recognition!”- Joanne Croxford
