shesaid.so at ADE 2024

shesaid.so is excited to renew its partnership with ADE this year, offering activities that include a mentoring program for mentors and mentees of all genders as part of ADE Lab, along with a shesaid.so Pro Talk and Mixer as part of the ADE Pro program on Thursday, October 17th, powered by Ballantine’s True Music Fund.

At ADE 2024, shesaid.so will host a Pro Talk on Thursday, October 17, marking 10 years since its inception as an online community designed to bring women of the music industry together and bring awareness to the disparity that still exists in the business today.

This year’s discussion, featuring shesaid.so founder Andreea Magdalina, Spotify's Phiona Okumu, and artist Aluna, will focus on the challenges of monopolization and the underrepresentation of non-traditional electronic music genres, markets, and identities.

In addition to the Pro Talk, our presence at ADE will include a Mixer and networking session powered by Ballantine's True Music Fund, offering an opportunity for global talent and industry professionals to connect and collaborate. The Mixer will feature a live performance by Tati au Miel, presented by MUTEK Montréal, FIBER Festival, and shesaid.so, as well as DJ sets by Aluna b2b Storm Mollison.

Please note you will need an ADE Pro pass to access the shesaid.so panel and Mixer taking place at Felix Meritis. If you are a shesaid.so ALICE, NINA or ALLIES member please reach out to us to unlock your discount on ADE Pro passes.

The we.grow at ADE mentoring program will focus on supporting music industry professionals as part of ADE Lab 2024. The program will feature a total of 5  mentors and 5 mentees. Mentors will be curated from the shesaid.so community and announced on September 20th.

shesaid.so has been working with ADE since 2017 with a focus on programming around diversity and inclusion in the music industry and a mentoring program that paired senior-level members from the shesaid.so community with mentees selected by ADE Lab. Since then, our team started shifting their focus towards programming that investigates the music business and educates its community on topics that are designed with shesaid.so’s core values at heart: diversity & inclusion, collaboration, and transparency.

Amsterdam Chapter of shesaid.so Relaunches with Industry Leaders Melissa d’Engelbronner and Connie Chow

We’re thrilled to announce that the Amsterdam Chapter of shesaid.so is reignited by music industry veterans Melissa d’Engelbronner and Connie Chow. Amsterdam is city is known for creativity, tolerance and pushing boundaries and therefore it's only natural that the team relaunches a community that mirrors this same spirit.

The Chapter’s objective is to establish an inclusive and comprehensive platform dedicated to supporting women in music at every stage of their careers, including students, junior-level professionals, seniors, and those in C-suite positions.

Connie and Melissa want to foster a vibrant community where individuals from both Dutch and international backgrounds can unite, share their experiences, and collaborate with one another. They believe it is imperative to cultivate an enjoyable and engaging atmosphere where members can connect and find inspiration while building meaningful relationships within the music community.

Melissa d’Engelbronner, a seasoned professional with close to a decade of experience in the music industry, brings her wealth of knowledge to the forefront. Having begun her career working on brand campaigns at agencies, Melissa's journey eventually led her to FUGA in 2015, where she ascended from coordinator to Head of Audience Strategy. Over the last three years, she has been instrumental in building an award-winning team dedicated to global 360 marketing campaigns for independent artists. Her passion for mentoring and uplifting her peers drives her commitment to supporting women in the music industry.

Connie Chow is the Dance & Electronic Marketing Strategy Director at FUGA, having joined in February 2021 after spending 8 years as Executive Vice President at Little Empire Music. At FUGA, Connie built out the distributor's Dance & Electronic division, and has acquired and worked with prominent labels including Insomniac Records, Hospital Records, STMPD, Revealed, Hexagon, and Dim Mak. Connie is also on the executive board for AFEM, a Recording Academy voting member for the Grammy Awards, and an inspirational mentor for the Asian American collective across the entertainment industries.

The objectives of the shesaid.so Amsterdam Chapter include:

  1. Establishing an inclusive and comprehensive platform dedicated to supporting women in music at all career stages.

  2. Challenging the stereotype of Amsterdam as primarily a hub for dance music by celebrating and promoting various genres within the music industry.

  3. Fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that encourages collaboration among individuals from Dutch and international backgrounds.

  4. Providing valuable resources and networking opportunities to empower women in music to advance their careers.

  5. Facilitating mentorship programs connecting aspiring women in music with established industry professionals.

  6. Cultivating an enjoyable atmosphere for members to connect, find inspiration, and build meaningful relationships within the music community.

To celebrate this exciting relaunch, shesaid.so Amsterdam is hosting a Vrijdagmiddag borrel mixer on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 15:00 to 17:00 on the 4th floor of the FUGA office.

The web3 track of the scheme will take place in partnership with ZORA - The open protocol to buy, sell and curate NFTs on Ethereum. We feel particularly aligned with them as a partner, as reflected by their Manifesto.

Web3 is a growing technology area that is changing the music industry as we speak and it is our desire to educate our community about opportunities within it and offer them the chance to learn from the best leaders in this space.

For the regular electronic music track of the scheme, we teamed up with YouTube Music and Meta to host a kickoff and a closing brunch events for mentors and mentees. This is an opportunity for us to create connections for the we.grow participants to these powerful companies.

Mentees! Apply for a chance to be selected in the program here!

Thursday 20th October | 12:00 - 12:45pm

ADE Pro Talk

shesaid.so presents: Why communities are the future of the music industry.

A roundtable hosted by Kat Young (ZORA) with Christine Osazuwa (shesaid.so), SUCHI (Daytimers), and Sam Schoonover (Coachella).

The music industry is constantly being reshaped by new technologies. Since the advent of the World Wide Web, power has slowly shifted away from gatekeepers and into the hands of creators, curators and the community overall. In spite of that, the internet as we know it has also led to a bottleneck of influence & commerce in the hands of a few tech companies and the people who lead them. At the same time, more and more communities started leveraging these digital tools to connect with one another, collectively organize and reclaim the music ecosystem. Today, web3 is promising to disrupt, decentralize and provide transparency once again. This discussion aims to disseminate these trends and look at case studies that hypothesize why communities are the future of the music industry.
